1. RESEARCH MANAGEMENT UNIT FUNCTIONS :
- Strategising, coordinating and facilitating research activities in Universiti Utara Malaysia.
- Coordinating and expanding the features of Research and Innovation Integrated System (RaIIS).
- Identifying, engaging and distributing research opportunities.
- Organising seminars/workshops/talks on potential research opportunities
- Monitoring research progress.
- Disseminating and expanding the potential research findings towards commercialisation.
2. TALENT MANAGEMENT & RESOURCE GENERATION UNIT FUNCTIONS :

Coordinating and exploring university research grant funding opportunities.

Forming and empowering and the evaluation and advisory team for the operation and offering of research grants.

Forming and empowering a team of seekers for new research grant opportunities offering and grant funding.

Exploring opportunities for collaboration between this unit/department and other industries/agencies/communities.
3. ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE UNIT FUNCTIONS :
- Responsible in managing human resource and development.
- Managing and monitoring department's financial affairs including research activities.
- Managing assets/inventories for the Department and research project.
- Secretariat for the Committee of Research and Innovation (JKPI).

Assisting on financial rules and procedures in relation to research project.
- Administering RaIIS Data Entry functions
4. SPECIAL TASK & STANDARD UNIT FUNCTIONS :

Providing MyRA Consultation. -
Data collection, analysis and reporting for university assessment purposes according to MyRA, MyMohes, Webometric, UI Green, THE, QS World Ranking, Annual Report and Strategic Plan. -
Creating policies related to Research University (RU) Agenda. -
Providing training and auditing services. -
Supporting IT services to RIMC including developing and maintaining website, creating new modules to support RaIIS System, DoE development, providing platform for crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. -
Exploring opportunities by collaborating with other units/departments to engage with other industrial/agencies/communities.
COE SECRETARIAT FUNCTIONS :
- Strategising and coordinating activities related to CoEs based on UUM’s research agenda.
- Developing relevant policies to drive CoEs based on niche areas and expertise.
- Administrating the establishment of CoEs and RUs.
- Managing and monitoring the research initiated for CoEs.
- Secretariat for CoE’s Strategic Development and Achievement Committee (JKCoE) and HiCoE at UUM.
