The British Academy (BA) is inviting applications to the first round of the 2017 Newton Mobility Grants scheme. Awards last for one year and cover all disciplines within the social sciences and humanities. Awards will support a range of activities, but mobility (in the form of visits and exchanges, etc.) should form an integral part of proposals. Collaborations should focus on a single jointly defined research project involving (or lead by) the two applicants.
The main aims of the Mobility Grants are to:
- Strengthen research capacity of the partner countries – by facilitating training and skill transfer from the UK to partner countries.
- Support excellent research – by linking the best researchers in the UK with the best researchers in partner countries and providing support for collaborative research.
- Establish long term research links – between both partners to ensure sustainable research capacity in partner countries and benefit to the UK research community in the longer term.
Newton Mobility Grants from the British Academy are currently available for the following countries:
The main purpose of the funding is to cover travel and maintenance (accommodation and subsistence) costs, although costs related to other eligible activities, such as organizing workshops and seminars and costs of consumables, will also be considered.
This scheme requires two applicants, one from the UK and one based overseas. Both should hold a PhD or can demonstrate equivalent research experience, and hold permanent or fixed-term contracts in eligible universities or research institutes for the duration of the award.
The Round 1 deadline for applications is 15 March 2017 (5pm GMT).
