Publication Incentive Schemes

A. PUBLICATION INCENTIVE SCHEME FOR JOURNAL ARTICLES, BOOKS, AND CHAPTERS IN BOOK

GUIDELINES

 1.0       APPLICATION SCOPE

  1. Application is open to all academic and non-academic staff still in service with UUM. 

    The following are the publication categories qualified for incentives :

b. The maximum  reward amount for each applicant is RM20,000.00 in the publication year where the applicant is not allowed to apply for any other university publication incentive scheme using the same article.

 

2.0      QUALIFYING CRITERIA

  1. Journal Article Criteria

  1. The journal article is required to state that the author is affiliated with Universiti Utara Malaysia.

  2. Articles published in journals that are NOT indexed and do not have high impact will not be qualified to receive the incentive.

  3. Incentive payment of indexed Web of Science (WoS™) Core Collection journal article refers to:

  • Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded)

  • Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)

  • Art and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI)

       b. Book AND Chapter in Book Criteria

  1.   The book must be the first edition.

  2.   The book must have a referee prior to publication.

  3.   Fast print published books are not accepted.

  4.   For the book chapter category, only four (4) chapters ONLY will be considered for incentive payment. 

  • The list of certified local (MAPIM) and international publishers can be found at the RIMC website at http://rimc.uum.edu.my. This list will be updated from time to time. 

  • For publication with co-authors where the group of authors are UUM staff, it is advised that the incentive shall be divided as agreed upon by all authors. Only one author is allowed to apply for this incentive scheme. The division of incentive is outside the jurisdiction of the University. 

3.0       APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. The applicant is required to complete the book and journal publication incentive scheme form (RIMC016/2012).

  2. The applicant is required to produce a copy of the front page of the publication and the pages that contain relevant information such as the author, title, year, and publisher.

4.0      APPLICATION FLOW

The application can be made using the Publication Incentive Scheme Application Form (Appendix 1) that is supported by evidence (Appendix 2) and submitted to the RIMC (attention: Deputy Director (Research Publication)). 

 

5.0      ENFORCEMENT DATE

           01 January 2013 

 

Note:    Payment will only be processed once the applicant has recorded the publication in the Publication System and it has been verified that the journal article has been indexed in the SCOPUS database.

B. PAYMENT SCHEME FOR JOURNAL PUBLICATION FEES (SPYPJ)

GUIDELINES

The payment scheme for journal publication fees (SPYPJ) is a scheme to encourage and reward UUM academic staff to improve the statistics of publication of journal articles, primarily in WoS / SCOPUS indexed journals. The terms and conditions for applying for this payment scheme are as follows:

1.0 SCOPE OF PAYMENT

a) Funding will be given to articles published in WoS / SCOPUS journals.

b) For journals that have impact factor value (ISI only), the publication fees will be borne fully by the university.

c) For journals with no impact factor value (only listed in SCOPUS), the maximum payment is USD500.00 or equivalent.

d) The scheme is open only to lecturers who do not have research grants related to the topic of the published article.

2.0 TERMS OF PAYMENT 

a) The applicant must be a permanent academic staff member of Universiti Utara Malaysia and the corresponding author of the article concerned.

b) Application for this scheme is based on the claim (pay first claim later).

3.0 APPLICATION PROCEDURE 

a) The applicant must fill in the Application Form for Payment Scheme for Journal Publication Fees (SPYPJ) (Form SPYPJ / 01).

b) The applicant must attach the following supporting documents:

i. Letter or email confirming acceptance of publication of article in the said journal.

ii. Evidence of journal listing in WoS / SCOPUS.

iii. Receipt of payment for publication of article.

iv. One hard copy of the article (if available)

4.0 APPLICATION FLOW 

a) The completed application form must be recommended by the Dean of the School and approved by the RIMC Director / Deputy Director (Research Publications) before it is forwarded to the Bursar’s Department for further action.

b) The Publications Committee of the School and RIMC with the assistance of the Sultanah Bahiyah Library, UUM should check the quality and authenticity of the accepting journal.

c) The School must inform the RIMC about the list of qualities or blacklisted journals to be taken into consideration when reviewing the applications.

5.0 EFFECTIVE DATE
