UUM ONLINE: “Ramadhan is not just a month where we endure hunger and thirst alone. It is a time filled with opportunities to enhance acts of kindness, deepen self-reflection, and strengthen our connection with Allah S.W.T.
Therefore, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, urged all campus denizens to make the most of the holy month of Ramadhan by expressing gratitude and engaging in self-reflection to strengthen their connection with Allah Almighty.
“I also call upon all of us to seize the diverse rewards and virtues of this blessed month. May we all have a blessed and fulfilling Ramadhan, and may we be among those who are granted entry into the paradise of Ar-Rayyan.
In addition to fasting and performing Tarawih, Zakat al-Fitr is one of the important acts when the blessed month of Ramadhan arrives.
“The act of Zakat al-Fitr can help local communities in need, and as Muslims, we are obligated to contribute to Zakat al-Fitr.
“This form of worship embodies the wisdom of caring for the economy of the community and indirectly purifying wealth, thereby increasing the blessings derived from our daily earnings,” he explained.
According to him, the Zakat al-Fitr collection, launched on Tuesday, is a collaborative effort between the UUM Islamic Centre and the Kedah State Zakat Board (LZNK) to facilitate UUM denizens in fulfilling their respective responsibilities.
He said that several qualified amils have been appointed and stationed at various locations within the campus area, with the aim of strengthening the local community holistically through this initiative.
Furthermore, he added, the total amount collected for Zakat al.Fitr for the year 2023 was RM25,402 for UUM.
“Progress is undoubtedly important, but health serves as the fundamental basis for achieving it. Therefore, I fervently hope that we prioritise the well-being of our mental and physical health.
“At this juncture, I also wish to wish you happy fasting and welcome the month of Ramadhan that is full of blessings,” he said at the Monthly Staff Assembly Programme and the Launching Ceremony of Universiti Utara Malaysia Zakat al-Fitr Collection 1445H/2024 held at the Sultan Badlishah Mosque UUM.
Additionally, he urged everyone to instil the mindset of inquiry in all aspects of life.
“The research approach should extend beyond the field of academia and be applicable in daily life.
“By embracing a research-oriented mindset, we can improve the landscape of human life to be better, more meaningful, and with more integrity. Therefore, all UUM denizens should emphasize the importance of research in developing the community and the country.
“I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the Research Management Centre (RMC) in collaboration with the Islamic Centre and all UUM denizens who are present today to make this event a success,” he said this during the launching the UUM 1445H Zakat al-Fitr Collection.
At the event, he also presented certificates of appreciation and appointment letters to Centre of Excellence (CoE) for their outstanding achievement in research, publication, consultation, and prospects for the year 2023. He also presented appointment letters to the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Domain.
