UUM ONLINE: Fellow SEML lecturer has successfully invented an innovative teaching product through the interactive application 'Smart Curriculum Studies: Case-Based Learning' (SCSCBL) to aid the learning process as the country confronts the COVID-19 outbreak.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulwahida Azid @ Aziz said COVID-19 did not become a hindrance for her to win the gold medal at the EUROINVENT 12th European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation 2020 in Iasi, Romania, which was held online.
"I am extremely elated with this achievement, besides helping students to better develop their critical writing skills through assignments that measure their analytical, creative and practical thinking skills," she said.
She, who also heads the Malaysian Research & Innovation Society (MyRIS) Kedah, said this interactive pedagogical tool was part of the 'Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)' research.
According to her, the interactive pedagogical tool will help the post-graduate students’ learning process no matter where they might be through the use of case-based learning approach via interactive applications designed and built on their own based on five teaching topics.
She said that she also designed five case-based learning activities based on those five topics while the tasks involved in the learning activities provided were to measure the analytical, creative and practical thinking skills of postgraduate students.
“By having an assessment for each topic will help students test their understanding when the score automatically appears in the 'Smart Curriculum Studies: Case-based learning' application.
"Through this study, I have produced one SCOPUS index journal and another SCOPUS journal which is under review," she said.
Dr. Nurulwahida further reiterated that the idea for developing this interactive application came from looking at the needs of 21st century learning and producing students, who can solve problems, think critically and creatively.
"I hope that the postgraduate students (teachers and future teachers) in my class, who have had the experience of 'critical thinking pedagogy', can do the same with their students at school," she shared.
According to her, writing essays done by each postgraduate student will require them to apply problem-solving skills.
She expressed hope to create more pedagogical tools in the future to stimulate critical thinking and problem solving skills among postgraduate students to help UUM produce graduates who could improve the performance in their profession.

PENSYARAH UUM CIPTA PRODUK INOVASI PENGAJARAN DEPANI COVID-19
UUM ONLINE: Pensyarah SEML telah mencipta produk inovasi pengajaran melalui aplikasi interaktif ‘Smart Curriculum Studies: Case-Based Learning’ (SCSCBL) bagi membantu proses pembelajaran ketika negara sedang berdepan dengan wabak Covid-19.
Prof. Madya Dr. Nurulwahida Azid @ Aziz berkata, Covid-19 bukan penghalang untuk merangkul pingat emas pada EUROINVENT 12th European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation 2020 di Iasi, Romania yang diadakan secara online.
“Semestinya perasaan amat teruja di atas kemenangan ini, selain dapat membantu pelajar untuk meningkatkan penulisan secara kritikal melalui tugasan yang mengukur kemahiran berfikir analitikal, kreatif dan praktikal mereka,” ujarnya.
Beliau yang juga Ketua Malaysian Research & Innovation Society (MyRIS) Kedah berkata, alat pedagogi interaktif ini merupakan sebahagian hasil penyelidikan ‘Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)’.
Menurutnya, alat pedagogi interaktif (‘interactive pedagogical tool’) seperti ini akan dapat membantu proses pembelajaran pelajar pasca siswazah walau di mana mereka berada dengan menggunakan pendekatan ‘case-based learning’ melalui aplikasi interaktif yang direka bentuk dan dibina sendiri berdasarkan lima topik pengajaran.
Katanya, dia juga telah membina lima aktiviti pembelajaran berasaskan kes berdasarkan lima topik tersebut manakala tugasan yang terkandung dalam aktiviti pembelajaran yang disediakan adalah mengukur kemahiran berfikir analitikal, kreatif dan praktikal pelajar sarjana.
“Dengan adanya pentaksiran bagi setiap topik akan membantu pelajar menguji kefahaman mereka apabila ‘score’ markah akan terpapar secara automatik di paparan aplikasi ‘Smart Curriculum Studies: Case-based learning’.
“Menerusi kajian ini, saya telah menghasilkan satu penerbitan jurnal berindeks SCOPUS dan satu lagi penerbitan jurnal SCOPUS yang sedang dalam ‘review’,” katanya.
Mengulas lanjut, Dr. Nurulwahida berkata, idea untuk membangunkan aplikasi interaktif ini tercetus apabila melihat keperluan pembelajaran abad ke-21 dan penghasilan pelajar yang mampu menyelesaikan masalah, berfikiran secara kritis dan kreatif.
“Saya berharap pelajar sarjana (guru dan bakal guru) yang berada di dalam kelas saya yang telah melalui pengalaman pembelajaran ‘critical thinking pedagogy’, mereka juga boleh melaksanakan perkara yang sama bersama pelajar mereka di sekolah nanti,” kongsinya.
Menurutnya, penulisan esei yang dihasilkan oleh setiap pelajar sarjana memerlukan mereka mengaplikasikan kemahiran menyelesaikan masalah.
Katanya, dia berhasrat menghasilkan lebih banyak ‘pedagogical tool’ pada masa depan bagi merangsang pemikiran kritikal dan kemahiran menyelesaikan masalah pelajar pasca siswazah bagi membantu UUM melahirkan graduan yang mampu meningkatkan prestasi lebih cemerlang dalam profesion mereka.
