UUM ONLINE: The role of volunteers is very important not only for aiding the organization, but also the country in providing service to the people when needed. Not to mention, the duty of volunteering is also carried out by civil servants at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) who serve at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Institution of Higher Education (IHE) ‘Outreach’ Vaccination Centre.
President of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (CUEPACS), Mr. Adnan Mat thanked and congratulated UUM for accepting the challenge of opening the Vaccination Centre, which in one fell swoop contributed greatly to the country's aspiration to achieve herd immunity faster and eventually people can return to normal life as before.
Furthermore, he praised the efforts of the staff and volunteers who have worked together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic since the first Movement Control Order (MCO) was issued last year.
"They are frontliners, serving tirelessly and exposing themselves to the risks of the COVID-19 infection. This demonstrates the sacrifice of all government servants, and CUEPACS has never received any complaints about civil servants not being on duty or refusing to carry out their responsibilities.
"These civil servants who are also volunteers continue to carry out their obligation towards the country and serve the people so that the pandemic ends quickly and situation can recover," he said yesterday after visiting the UUM IHE ‘Outreach’ Vaccination Centre at Mu'adzam Shah Hall, in conjunction with the CUEPACS Visit to Nationwide Vaccination Centres Series.
During the visit, he also presented certificates of appreciation to the staff and volunteers serving at the UUM IHE ‘Outreach’ Vaccination Centre.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar stated that UUM will do everything possible to assist the country in dealing with the pandemic through the UUM IHE ‘Outreach’ Vaccination Centre.
"We note a very high level of volunteer spirit at the Vaccination Centre, coming from clinical professionals from the Ministry of Health, University Health Centre, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as MERCY Malaysia.
"In sha Allah, UUM will work harder and better to ensure that we can obtain herd immunity as soon as possible and pray that the pandemic in the country will be over and our lives will resume as usual," he remarked on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.
The UUM IHE 'Outreach' Vaccination Centre was initiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
